The Philadelphia Phillies claimed right-hander José Urquidy off waivers from the White Sox to provide inning-eating depth as Jesús Luzardo remains on the injured list; Urquidy is available now but not postseason-eligible due to the waiver timing, and Caleb Kilian was moved to the 60-day injured list to clear a 40-man spot.
Padres submitted a waiver claim for Luis Robert Jr., but the Orioles, with the worse record, had priority and claimed him. The bid signals the new Padres ownership’s willingness to spend, given Robert’s roughly $20 million salary and a $2 million buyout for 2027, as Robert debuted for Baltimore with a two-run double and is expected to receive regular outfield at-bats while the Orioles navigate injuries.
Las Vegas used its top waiver priority to claim veteran CB Darrell Luter, beating four other interested teams—the Titans, Dolphins, Cowboys and Colts—who also submitted claims. The New York Mets have claimed right-hander Max Kranick off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kranick, who made his major league debut in 2021 and underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022, will join the Mets as they aim to bolster their pitching staff and bench depth for the 2024 season. The Mets will need to make corresponding roster moves to accommodate Kranick and their signing of Sean Manaea.
The Philadelphia Phillies have claimed right-hander Dylan Covey off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers to add to their pitching rotation. Covey made one relief appearance with the Dodgers this season, allowing two runs in four innings. The Phillies have been dealing with underperformance in their rotation and are in the bottom-third of baseball in ERA and innings per start. It is unclear whether Covey will start for the Phillies on Tuesday when the fifth spot in their rotation comes up again.
The Buffalo Bills have claimed defensive end Kameron Cline off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts. Cline, who appeared in five games for the Colts, was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020. The Bills likely remembered his performance against them in a preseason game last year, where he recorded a sack, hurry, and forced fumble. While the addition of Cline may not be a huge splash signing, it represents a new opportunity for the young player to make waves in Buffalo's rotation at defensive end.
