The Emotional Impact of Weaning and Breastfeeding Hormones.

Weaning a baby off breast milk can cause mood swings, sadness, and even depression in the breastfeeding parent due to hormonal changes. Hormones responsible for lactation, prolactin and oxytocin, also contribute to feelings of calm and contentment, so as they decrease, mood can dip. The impact of hormonal changes after weaning can vary depending on the age of the baby, how frequently the parent is still nursing and/or pumping, and how swiftly weaning occurs. These feelings are temporary and will subside as the parent and baby adapt to the new routine, which usually takes no more than two weeks.

Peanut Butter Reduces Baby Allergies by 77%, Study Finds.

Giving babies between four and six months old small amounts of smooth peanut butter could reduce peanut allergies by 77%, according to research by the University of Southampton, King's College London and the National Institute for Health and Care Research. The study found the critical period to start introducing foods containing peanut was between four and six months, and delaying the introduction of peanut-based foods until the child was one-year-old would only cut allergy cases by 33%. The NHS guidance currently advises introducing peanut from around six months old.
