Sony unveils the WH-1000XM4C, a refined wireless noise-cancelling headphone with 10-band EQ and upgraded tuning, priced at $419 and launching in September 2026, alongside refreshed WH-CH730N ($169) and WH-CH530 ($79) models.
Sony has unveiled the WH-1000XM4C, a revived XM4 that uses the same hardware but a DSP-tuned sound, priced around £219 / $300 / AU$449.95, placing it close to the XM5; the XM5 is reportedly headed for end-of-life in February due to EU battery regulations, making the XM4C a compliant alternative and prompting questions about the XM5’s value, with pricing shifts at retailers potentially affecting choice while full in-house testing is still pending.
Sony is reviving the WH-1000XM4C as a refreshed $300 option with updated sound profiles, EQs, and faster quick charging, while also introducing two new budget-friendly models (WH-CH730N at $180 and WH-CH530 at $70) that bring redesigned cups, improved ANC, longer battery life, and safety features, all launching this fall.
Sony reintroduces the WH-1000XM4 as the WH-1000XM4C, a revised XM4 that uses a smaller battery to comply with EU battery rules (finalized by 2027), delivering the same 40mm drivers, ANC and core tech but with tuned sound inspired by the XM5/XM6. It adds a ten‑band EQ and Gaming EQ via the Headphones Connect app, keeps Multipoint BT and Precise Voice Pickup, introduces a lavender finish, and is priced at £219 / $300 / AU$449.95 with a release this month; XM4 will phase out due to the battery regulation.
Leaks say Sony is prepping a cheaper WH-1000XM4C variant of its six-year XM4 headphones, offering similar ANC performance (QN1-based), spatial audio, hi‑res audio support, and touch controls, but with shorter battery life. Pricing is expected at about €249.99/£219.99 (roughly $289–$297), and the launch is targeted for early September 2026 in black, silver, and lavender, continuing the XM4 line despite newer XM5/XM6 updates.
A fresh leak suggests Sony’s WH-1000XM4C will launch September 7, 2026 in Europe for €249.99 (and £219.99 in the UK) with three color options and up to 34 hours of playback (NC off); the design and feature set reportedly stay close to the XM4, leaving questions about whether this is a refreshed model or a Lite edition.
