Scientists from the Whale-SETI research team have successfully engaged in a 20-minute "conversation" with a humpback whale named Twain, using recorded humpback calls played through an underwater speaker. The team aims to develop intelligence filters for the search for extraterrestrial life and believes this breakthrough in non-human intelligence is the first communicative exchange between humans and humpback whales in their "language." The behavior observed in humpback whales supports the assumption that extraterrestrials may be interested in making contact. The Whale-SETI team is utilizing their findings to develop filters for potential extraterrestrial signals and is also studying the non-audio communicative behavior of humpback whales.
