Verrica's VP-102 Receives FDA Approval as First Treatment for Molluscum Contagiosum
Verrica Pharmaceuticals has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its drug, Ycanth, making it the first approved treatment for the viral skin infection molluscum contagiosum in the United States. The drug, delivered through a single-use applicator, demonstrated effectiveness in two late-stage studies, with about half of the patients achieving complete clearance of all treatable lesions over twelve weeks. The company estimates that approximately six million people, primarily children, are affected by this condition annually in the United States. Ycanth is expected to be commercially available by September 2023.
