New York has made $100 million available for zero-emission public school buses as part of the state's transition to zero-emission vehicles. This funding is the first round of support under the $4.2 billion Environmental Bond Act approved by voters in 2022. School districts will be prohibited from purchasing diesel buses starting in 2027, with the goal of having all school buses in the state be zero-emission by 2035. The funding and guidance provided aim to promote clean transportation and a healthier, low-carbon future for students. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority has also released a roadmap to assist school districts in transitioning to electric buses.
