US and Russia Accuse Each Other of Hacking iPhones for Spying Purposes

Kaspersky reported that a government-backed hacking group targeted several dozen employees' iPhones with unknown malware delivered via an iMessage attachment. The malware was designed to clean up the infected devices and remove traces of itself, but Kaspersky researchers were able to identify the compromise using a tool developed by Amnesty International. The company did not attribute the operation to any government or hacking group, and it is unclear if it is related to the Russian Federal Security Service's accusation that the NSA hacked "thousands" of Apple phones to spy on Russian diplomats.
