The Impact of Inflation on Grocery Prices and Cooking Habits.
Grocery prices in the US dropped by 0.2% in March compared to February, the first drop since September 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) March Consumer Price Index (CPI). However, food prices are still up 8.4% compared to March 2022. Egg prices decreased by 10.9% on a monthly basis, but remain higher on a year-over-year basis, up 36.0%. Other food prices, including ham, pork chops, milk, peanut butter, instant coffee, and shelf-stable fish and seafood, also declined on a month-to-month basis. However, other grocery prices, including cereal and cereal products, uncooked beef steaks, bacon, lunch meats, and snacks, increased on a month-over-month basis in March.
