Record Low Unemployment Rates in North and South Carolina

Unemployment in North Carolina dropped to its lowest level since the pandemic, reaching 3.3% in June. The state saw positive job growth, with 14,000 people finding employment and the unemployed ranks declining by over 3,000. More people are working in North Carolina than ever before, with several sectors, including leisure/hospitality, construction, and manufacturing, surpassing pre-pandemic employment levels. However, economist Dr. Mike Walden warns that the pace of job growth is slowing, and the economy still faces inflation and the possibility of a recession in 2024.
