Advancements in Solar Panel Technology: Recycling and Self-Healing Solutions

The first utility-scale solar panel recycling plant has opened in Yuma, Arizona, to address the growing issue of solar waste. While many worn and damaged panels are still being dumped in landfills, We Recycle Solar aims to repurpose and reuse these panels, separating them by brand and model. The facility can process 7,500 panels per day and is reusing about 60% of the panels that come in. With the global solar waste estimated to reach 78 million tons by 2050, the recycling industry is taking shape to tackle this challenge and recover valuable materials such as copper, silver, aluminum, and glass.
