Recycling Contributes to Microplastic Pollution.

A new study has found that plastic recycling centers can still produce microplastics that contaminate the air and water, even with filtering systems in place. The study focused on a single facility and found that the total discharge from different washes could produce up to 75 billion particles per cubic meter of wastewater. More than half of the microplastics can be captured with a filtration system, but the researchers warn that recycling centers may be exacerbating the microplastics crisis, which is coating every corner of the environment with synthetic particles.
