"Deadly Bacteria in Eye Drops Sparks Large-Scale Recall"

The FDA has issued warnings for several eye drops over sterility and contamination concerns, including some containing the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. India-based pharmaceutical company Global Pharma recalled two over-the-counter eye drops: EzriCare Artificial Tears and Delsam Pharma’s Artificial Tears, which were linked to the bacteria and caused severe injuries in at least 68 patients. Two other eye drops have been recalled over sterility concerns in the manufacturing process. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a potent, drug-resistant bacteria that is commonly found in the environment and can cause eye pain and temporary or permanent loss of vision. Eye drops are generally safe to use, but if you have or used a recently recalled eye drop brand, it is recommended to consult with your pharmacist.
