Major egg recall tied to 98 Salmonella cases across 17 states

The FDA and CDC link a recall of about 1.6 million dozen eggs from Midwest Poultry Services to a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened 98 people and hospitalized 26 across 17 states between Nov 21, 2025 and Jun 30, 2026. Traceback and whole-genome sequencing connect the illnesses to the producer; affected eggs (white and brown cage-free) sold under multiple brands carry codes P-1950 or 0840962 with Julian dates 157–184 and were sold in Kroger, Brookshire’s and other retailers across TX, LA, OK, AR, NM, MS and more. Consumers should discard recalled eggs or return them; restaurants and retailers should stop selling them and sanitize affected surfaces. Typical Salmonella symptoms appear 12–72 hours after ingestion and last 4–7 days, with higher risk for young children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals.
