Paxlovid receives full FDA approval for COVID treatment.

Pfizer's COVID-19 pill, Paxlovid, has received full approval from the FDA for use in adults with COVID-19 who face high risks of severe disease. The drug has been used under emergency authorization since late 2021 and has been dispensed over 11 million times. Paxlovid is the first COVID-19 treatment in pill form to receive full FDA approval. The drug has been shown to significantly decrease the chance of hospitalization or death in people who have had COVID-19. The U.S. government has stockpiled millions of doses of Paxlovid, and patients will continue to receive it at no charge.
