Wegovy: The Weight-Loss Drug That Reduces Cardiovascular Risk

In a major clinical trial, the weight loss drug Wegovy has been shown to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or heart disease-related death by 20% in individuals with cardiovascular disease. This is the first trial to demonstrate that a weight loss drug alone can have such protective effects. The trial, called "Select," studied Wegovy against a placebo in over 17,000 adults with heart disease and obesity or who were overweight but did not have diabetes. The findings, which have not yet been peer-reviewed or published, may lead to increased use of the drug and improved insurance coverage.
