Holiday Travel Faces Threats of Storms, Smoke, and Record-Breaking Numbers

Severe storms, record heat, and wildfire smoke threaten Fourth of July travel and holiday weekend plans. More than 50 million people are expected to travel, with potential disruptions from storms affecting both road and air travel. Over 100 million people face the risk of damaging winds, tornadoes, or hail. Major airports in Atlanta, St. Louis, Nashville, and Cincinnati are at risk on Saturday, while storms in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic could cause interruptions on Sunday. Heat waves are also a concern, with at least 20 record-high temperatures expected to be broken in California, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Additionally, Canadian wildfire smoke will impact air quality in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.
