Florida's Invasive Mosquitoes Thrive in Warmer Climate.

Rising temperatures in Florida are contributing to the spread of invasive mosquito species, including the culex lactator, which is native to Central and South America but has now been found in three Florida counties near the Everglades. While the research does not find the new invasive species a big threat to public health, there are concerns about not knowing its habitat specificity, what diseases it may or may not carry, or how fast it may spread. As we string together warmer winters and hotter summers, we're seeing more invasive species native to areas even more tropical than Florida. The key is a commitment to preparation and maximizing mosquito control programs.
