"The Truth About Walking 10,000 Steps Daily for Longevity"

A meta-analysis of 15 existing studies suggests that the optimal number of daily steps for longevity is likely closer to 6,000, rather than the commonly promoted 10,000. The study found that taking at least 7,000 steps a day reduced chances of premature death by 50 to 70 percent, with the reduced risk topping out at around 6,000 to 8,000 steps a day for adults aged 60 and older. For younger adults, there wasn't evidence that they'd necessarily live longer by walking more than 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day. The research emphasizes that moving even a little more is beneficial, particularly for those who are doing very little activity, and suggests that setting a goal of at least 6,000 to 8,000 steps before bedtime could be a step towards a longer life.
