Diabetes drug shows promise in reducing colorectal cancer risk

Drugs like Ozempic, belonging to the GLP-1 receptor agonists family, may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) in young people, according to a major study. Researchers found that individuals with type 2 diabetes who took GLP-1 receptor agonists had a 44% lower risk of developing CRC compared to those treated with insulin. The protective effects were observed in both obese and non-obese individuals. The rise in CRC rates among young people is believed to be linked to high obesity rates and poor dietary practices. GLP-1 agonists, such as Ozempic, not only help in weight loss but also prevent insulin resistance, potentially protecting against tumor formation.
