"Breakthrough Diabetes Drug Approved for NHS Patients, Outperforming Rivals"

Tirzepatide, a drug that is 20% more effective than Ozempic, has been approved for NHS patients with Type 2 diabetes. The drug targets two receptors to promote insulin secretion and has shown to reduce average blood sugar levels to within a normal range in 81-97% of people, statistically more than any comparator. It also works as a weight-loss jab and is recommended for patients with Type 2 diabetes who have obesity-related conditions. The manufacturer, Eli Lilly, is seeking approval for the drug to be used for weight loss as well. The drug will be available in the UK from the start of 2024.
