Could Humans Grow a Third Set of Teeth? Early Trial Hints at Possibility

A Japanese team is pursuing tooth regrowth by blocking USAG-1 to remove a brake on tooth formation. Toregem BioPharma’s TRG035 advanced to a first-in-human Phase I trial in 30 healthy men (ages 30–65) missing at least one molar to assess safety across five dose levels. While the approach has shown safety signals and raises the possibility of a third dentition, there is no proven tooth regrowth in people yet. The program targets congenital tooth agenesis and plans Phase II in Japan with potential U.S. development later, eyeing practical use around 2030.
