Starbucks to pay $25 million to white manager fired for race.

Starbucks has been ordered to pay $25.6 million to a former regional manager, Shannon Phillips, who was fired because she was White. Phillips oversaw dozens of Starbucks coffee shops and was fired in the aftermath of a 2018 incident involving two Black men who were arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks. Phillips sued Starbucks in 2019, alleging that race had been a determining factor in her termination. A federal jury in New Jersey awarded Phillips $600,000 in compensatory damages and $25 million in punitive damages after finding that Starbucks violated her federal civil rights and a New Jersey law that prohibits discrimination based on race.
