Erie County Implements Strict Measures Following Buffalo Hotel Assaults

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz has refused to accept additional resettlements of migrants from New York City after two alleged sex assaults occurred at Buffalo-area hotels housing asylum-seekers. Poloncarz expressed frustration and stated that the county's trust had been betrayed, potentially by the firm overseeing the relocation of migrants. The National Guard will provide security at the hotels, and Poloncarz has called for a new and improved security plan. Some local officials had already raised concerns about the lack of proper vetting and the strain on the community. New York City has sent around 540 asylum-seekers to Erie County.
