Prosecutors have dropped misdemeanor charges against two Northwestern University students who created a parody version of the school’s student newspaper criticizing the university's stance on the war in Gaza. The reversal comes after widespread backlash from students, faculty, and alumni, with more than 70 student groups promising to boycott the Daily Northwestern until the charges were dropped. The students, who are Black, were charged with theft of advertising services, but the company behind the university’s student paper has actively sought for the charges to be dropped, leading to the prosecutors' decision to dismiss the case.
