"2024: Unprecedented Double Brood Emergence of Billions of Cicadas"
TL;DR
Two cicada broods, Brood XIX and Brood XIII, are set to emerge simultaneously in the eastern United States from late April through June, creating a "spectacular, macabre Mardi Gras" of billions of cicadas. While their deafening calls and large numbers may be annoying, the experts emphasize that their emergence is not harmful to humans or pets, and advise against using pesticides on them. The event is considered an extremely rare, once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, and is described as a unique, beautiful spectacle of nature.
