Florida's Heatwave Turns Water from Refreshing to Unbearable

Parts of Florida experienced extremely high ocean temperatures, reaching as high as 101.2 degrees Fahrenheit (38.4 degrees Celsius), making swimming less pleasant and refreshing. The hot water, caused by sun, little wind, and no storms, reverses the transfer of heat into the body, making it feel like swimming in soup. Climate change is creating a hotter world, warming oceans, and causing coral bleaching. The hot ocean water, combined with Florida's humid weather, makes it harder for sweat to evaporate and cool the body down, offering little relief from the suffocating heat.
