The U.S. Transportation Department is allocating $110 million to fund 19 projects across 17 states aimed at reducing car collisions with wildlife and facilitating safe animal crossings. With over 1 million wildlife vehicle collisions occurring annually, costing more than $8 billion and resulting in numerous injuries and deaths, the funding aims to address this significant safety concern. Projects include using GPS data to track animal movement, building wildlife fencing and overpasses, and designing wildlife underpasses. The funding is part of a five-year $350 million program established by the 2021 infrastructure law.
