New Mexico Governor Proposes Ambitious Zero-Emission Vehicle Mandate

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham plans to implement some of the strongest vehicle emissions rules in the nation, requiring car manufacturers to deliver increasing numbers of electric vehicles to the state. By 2027, nearly half of all new vehicles sold in New Mexico must be zero-emission vehicles, with that number increasing to 82% by 2042. The new rules aim to accelerate investment in electric vehicles and other environmentally-friendly initiatives, positioning New Mexico as an environmental leader. The rules will be established through a formal administrative process and do not require legislative approval.
