Trudeau and Biden secure funding for Great Lakes conservation.

Canada has pledged to spend $420 million over the next decade to improve water quality in the Great Lakes, following a meeting between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US President Joe Biden. The Great Lakes are still suffering from 20th century industrial pollution and newer challenges such as climate change, PFAS chemicals and microplastics. The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River provide drinking water for some 40 million people and support a regional economy in eight US states and two Canadian provinces. The US Great Lakes Restoration Initiative has pumped some $4 billion into projects aimed at fixing those problems, with annual spending averaging between $300 million to 400 million.
