"AP-NORC Poll: Majority of Americans Believe Taxes Are Too High"

A new poll from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research reveals that a majority of U.S. taxpayers feel they pay too much in federal income taxes, local property taxes, and state sales tax, with many expressing dissatisfaction with the value they receive in return. Republicans are more likely than Democrats to view taxes as unfair and to believe they are paying too much. The poll also shows that few adults have high confidence in how their tax dollars are spent by government institutions, with older adults more likely to perceive taxes as fair. Additionally, most adults feel they do not get a good value from paying taxes, and relatively few understand how their tax amounts are calculated.
