Russian Surveillance Flight Spotted Over US Base in Syria

A Russian surveillance aircraft flew over a US base in Syria, conducting an intelligence-gathering mission. The aircraft, an Antonov An-30, flew back and forth several times over the At-Tanf garrison and the surrounding area. US assets were unable to intercept the Russian aircraft due to the positioning of US aircraft at the time. While the US and Russia regularly collect intelligence on each other, this incident was significant as it occurred directly over a US base. The US has daily flight patterns that are intentionally changed to avoid predictability, but there was a small gap in coverage during this incident. Despite increased aggression from Russian aircraft, there is no apparent willingness to escalate with American forces, and the US does not believe Russia will attack its troops.
