UN Rapporteur Urges Support for Israelis and Palestinians Amidst Conflict

Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, has criticized the incomplete narrative surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict, emphasizing the need to stand with both Israelis and Palestinians without resorting to selective outrage or calls for violence. Albanese called for restoring legality and accountability, using diplomacy and peace as conflict resolution methods, and condemned attacks on civilians by both Palestinian armed groups and Israeli occupation forces. She highlighted the ongoing violence and oppression faced by Palestinians and urged the international community to be wise and even-handed in addressing the situation. Albanese also called for governments to not recognize or support illegal Israeli settlements and to hold those responsible for such settlements accountable.
