Federal Judge Temporarily Halts Tennessee's Anti-Drag Legislation

A federal judge has temporarily blocked Tennessee's new law that places strict limits on drag shows, just hours before it was set to go into effect. The law was challenged by an LGBTQ+ theater company, Friends of George's, who claimed that it violates the First Amendment. The judge agreed that the law is likely vague and overly broad, and that the state has failed to make a compelling argument as to why it was needed. The law redefined adult cabaret to include "male or female impersonators" and banned performances from public property or anywhere minors might be present.
