Queens asylum seeker shelter to close ahead of schedule

A shelter for asylum seekers in Queens, located inside the former St. Agnes High School in College Point, is closing earlier than expected. The shelter, which was scheduled to close on October 31, has faced protests from local residents since its opening in July. Asylum seekers staying at the school will be relocated to other shelters by Sunday. The City Hall spokesperson acknowledged the strain on New York City in dealing with the national crisis of asylum seekers and called for a broader state and national solution.
