GOP Proposes REAL ID Grants to Enact Election Safeguards via Reconciliation

North Dakota Rep. Julie Fedorchak will roll out the SAVE America Through REAL ID Act, proposing a $50 million-per-year grant program to help states offer REAL ID–compliant IDs for voting as a way to embed election safeguards in a GOP reconciliation bill, addressing cost concerns for low-income voters and potential Senate-friendly constraints. The move is being discussed alongside House leadership as Republicans seek to include elements of the SAVE Act in a forthcoming party-line package.
