Montana's Only Openly Transgender Lawmaker Faces GOP Backlash Over Gender-Affirming Care Ban

Montana's first transgender lawmaker, Rep. Zooey Zephyr, faced calls for censure after telling Republican colleagues during a House floor debate that they have "blood on (their) hands" if they vote for a bill that would prohibit sex change treatments for minors. The bill passed the House and Senate, and Montana Governor Greg Gianforte is expected to sign it into law. At least 13 states have enacted laws restricting or prohibiting sex change treatment care for minors, and three states have banned or restricted such care via regulations or administrative orders.
