Ohio's Political Landscape Faces Legal Challenges and Controversial Measures.

A campaign group opposing a proposal to make it harder to change the Ohio Constitution has asked the Ohio Supreme Court to block the Aug. 8 election that Republican state lawmakers set earlier this week when they voted to send the proposal to voters. The lawsuit says that Ohio can’t legally hold statewide elections in August, since Republican state lawmakers voted in December to end August special elections. Republican state lawmakers voted on Wednesday ask voters to approve what’s called Senate Joint Resolution 2 which would require proposed amendments to the Ohio constitution to get a 60% supermajority in a statewide vote to pass, compared to the current 50% majority standard that’s been in place or more than a century.
