US Supreme Court to Decide Fate of Abortion Pill Access Lawsuit

The US Supreme Court is expected to rule on whether to allow restrictions on mifepristone, the most common method of abortion in the US, to go into effect while a lawsuit brought by anti-abortion groups targeting the pill proceeds. If the court upholds lower court rulings in favor of limiting the drug, it would drastically curtail access to abortion and miscarriage care nationally, even in states where abortion is still legal. The case was brought by the Christian legal group Alliance Defending Freedom, and a Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas sided with the plaintiffs, issuing a preliminary injunction suspending the FDA’s 23-year-old approval of mifepristone.
