Eastern U.S. Braces for One of the Planet’s Strongest Heat Domes

A massive heat dome centered over the north‑central United States is expected to push temperatures to around 100°F from the Dakotas to New Hampshire on Tuesday and then reach the Mid‑Atlantic by Wednesday, threatening dangerous heat for more than 110 million people. The heat has already produced 115°F in Montana and 100°F in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and the dome is being described as among the strongest on Earth, rivaling heat in northern Africa. Forecasters warn of potential severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in the Northeast as the heat surge moves east, with conditions expected to ease by the weekend.
