Gulf of Mexico Storm Set to Intensify on Path to Texas

A storm system in the Gulf of Mexico, named Tropical Depression Nine, is expected to strengthen and make landfall on the Texas coast, potentially causing coastal flooding. The system could bring 3 to 5 inches of rainfall, with isolated higher amounts, and is one of five storm systems currently active in the Atlantic Ocean. The threat to offshore oil and gas production in the region is a concern, as the northern Gulf of Mexico accounts for a significant portion of crude oil and natural gas output.
