TL;DR

A heat dome is causing record-breaking, triple-digit temperatures across the southwestern US, affecting millions in states like California, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas. Excessive heat warnings are in effect, with temperatures predicted to soar as high as 119F in Death Valley. The extreme heat has led to closures of popular hiking trails, increased demand for cooling shelters, and heightened health risks, particularly for unhoused individuals. The National Weather Service expects the heatwave to persist for several more days.
