Impending Severe Weather Threatens Eastern US with Record Heat and Destructive Storms

A severe weather outbreak is expected in the eastern United States, with damaging wind gusts, hail, heavy rainfall, and a few tornadoes. Around 120 million people could be impacted, with a Level 4 moderate risk of severe thunderstorms in place. The greatest risk of widespread, potentially destructive winds will be in western Virginia to southern Pennsylvania, including major cities like Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. Wind gusts could reach hurricane-force speeds of 60 to 80 mph. Damaging winds, tornadoes, and flash flooding are also possible across other areas of the Southeast to the Northeast. Meanwhile, excessive heat warnings and advisories remain in effect across the southern part of the country, with numerous record high temperatures expected.
