"Pneumonia Front to Bring Sudden Temperature Drop Across Midwest"

A "pneumonia front" is expected to move through southern and southwest Wisconsin and could drop temperatures anywhere from 20-40 degrees in just a matter of minutes. The term pneumonia front was first coined by the National Weather Service in Milwaukee in the 1960s to identify the rapid changes in temperatures that can come from lake-enhanced cold air coming off of Lake Michigan and into central and southern Wisconsin. The temperature swings will be the most dramatic in communities along Lake Michigan, while Appleton, Sheboygan, and Green Bay may not see severe effects from the front.
