Severe storms threaten Colorado with hail, tornadoes, and flash flooding.

Severe storms are expected to hit Denver and other cities in the afternoon, bringing rain, lightning, wind bursts, and hail. The wind could gust at speeds up to 70 miles per hour and tornadoes are possible. Heavy rain will raise risks of flooding, especially in mountain foothills west of metro Denver on forest burn scars. The likelihood of rain is estimated at 70%. Flood risks are elevated because soil no longer can absorb water as easily. Creeks and rivers running high and fast, in part due to mountain snowpack melting, also may flood.
