Ancient Hybrid Jawbone Unveils Third Human Lineage in China

Paleontologists in China have discovered fossilized remains of a previously unknown human lineage dating back 300,000 years. The fossils, including a jawbone, partial skull, and leg bones, exhibit unique features resembling both modern humans and ancient hominids. The absence of a chin suggests a closer relation to older species, while other features resemble Homo erectus. The combination of traits has not been observed in East Asian hominids before, suggesting that modern human characteristics may have appeared as early as 300,000 years ago. The remains likely represent a third lineage, distinct from Denisovans and Homo erectus, and closer to Homo sapiens, indicating shared evolutionary relationships with Middle or Late Pleistocene hominins.
