Indian astronomers have discovered a new ring galaxy, designated DES J024008.08-551047.5, which may belong to the rare class of polar ring galaxies. The galaxy, known as DJ0240, was detected during visual observations of optical imaging data from the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey. The ring component of DJ0240 is positioned almost perpendicular to the host galaxy, suggesting it is a potential polar ring galaxy candidate. Further studies, including spectroscopic observations, are needed to confirm its classification.
