Mysterious Cosmic Ribbons Unveil Rare Polar Ring Galaxies

Astronomers have discovered a rare polar ring galaxy, NGC 4632, located 56 million light-years away. The galaxy is surrounded by a massive ring of gas that is invisible in most of the electromagnetic spectrum and can only be detected with radio telescopes. This finding suggests that polar ring galaxies may be more common than previously thought, with an estimated 1-3% of nearby galaxies potentially having gaseous polar rings.
