The Grim Reality of Melting Glaciers and Rising Sea Levels.

The UN's World Meteorological Organisation's Secretary General, Professor Petteri Taalas, has warned that the world has lost the battle to stop glaciers melting and sea levels rising due to high concentrations of carbon dioxide. The Arctic is warming up to three times faster than the rest of the world, and the poles function as the planet's refrigerators, so as they shrink, the heat reflecting white surface is replaced by darker water, which absorbs heat, accelerating warming. The loss of ice means the loss of precious habitats for wildlife, and a disruption of delicate ecosystems, ocean currents and weather patterns.
