Rare Saber-Toothed Marsupial Fossil Discovered in Colombia

Researchers have discovered the most complete skeleton of a saber-toothed marsupial, Anachlysictis gracilis, in Colombia's Tatacoa Desert. This finding sheds light on the mysterious species that lived approximately 13 million years ago and belonged to the sparassodonts group. The fossil, belonging to the Thylacosmilidae family, reveals the marsupial's curved, saber-like canines and suggests it was a hypercarnivore that preyed on smaller mammals.
