Northern Lights May Illuminate Skies from Washington to New York on Friday.

The Northern Lights, also known as aurora borealis, could be visible in the skies over some northern US states on Friday, thanks to solar winds blowing from a giant coronal hole on the sun. The lights may be seen as far south as Washington and Michigan. The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a watch for a moderate geomagnetic storm on Friday, which could cause magnetic-field chaos when high-speed particles hit Earth, but moderate geomagnetic storms are more benign and have previously driven the aurora lights as far south as New York and Idaho.
